Information and Services
To obtain a marriage license:
- Birth Certificates for each party.
- Divorce Decrees (When applicable)
- Mecosta County resident.
- 18 years of age.
- Out-of-State residents must apply in the County where they will be married.
- License issued after a three day waiting period. (Valid for 30 days)

Birth Certificates
Certified copies of Birth Certificates can be obtained from the county in which the birth took place.
- Under Michigan Law, certified copies of Birth Certificates are restricted documents and can only be requested by individuals who are eligible to receive them. Eligible persons include:
- The individual subject of the record.
- The parent(s) named on the record.
- An heir of the individual who is subject of the record (death record required).
- A Legal Guardian of the individual who is subject of the record (court documented guardianship papers required).
- Government issued identification required for all requests unless the record is over 100 years old. Other identification may be used upon approval from the County Clerk’s Office.
Marriage Certificates
- Certified copies of Marriage Licenses can be obtained from the county in which the parties resided at the time of marriage.
- Records are available from 1867 and there are no restrictions on who can obtain a copy.
Death Certificates
- Certified copies of Death Certificates can be obtained from the county in which the individual’s death occurred.
- Records are available from 1867 and there are no restrictions on who can obtain a copy.
Fees: $10 for the 1st copy, $5 each additional of the same record.
A non-refundable $4 convenience fee and credit card processing fee will be applied to online orders.

A form from the County Clerk’s Office must be completed.
If there is more than one owner, all owners must sign the business registration form, in the presence of a Notary Public.
If the business is owned by a Corporation, a copy of the corporate papers is required (first and last pages only, with signatures of corporate officers).
If registering the name of a franchise, include a copy of the Franchise Agreement (first and last pages only.)

Qualifications
You must be 18 years of age or older, a Michigan resident, and reside in Mecosta County.
Procedure
Applicant must purchase a $10,000 bond from an insurance company. Bond is then filed with the County Clerk along with a $10.00 filing fee. Applicant fills out a notary application form given to them by the Clerks’ staff or downloaded from the Secretary of State.
Completed application must contain County Clerk’s seal and signature. The application form must then be sent by the applicant to the “State of Michigan” along with a check or money order in the amount of $10.00.
Notary commission will be sent directly to the applicant and will be valid for 6 to 7 years.

Other Forms
As of 12/1/2015, to apply for a “CPL” an applicant must submit:
An updated CPL Application, found at www.Michigan.gov/firearms
Training Certificate, current within 5 years of application date
Fee:
- New Applicant $115 (includes $15 fingerprinting fee)
- Renewal Applicant $115 (must apply within 1 year after expiration date)
- Re-Application $115 – for a license that has been expired more than a year, applicant must retake training course and be reprinted

CPL Facts:
- Once approved the CPL License must be mailed to the applicant’s address.
- The clerk has 45 days from the date of fingerprints on a new or reapplication to issue or deny a CPL, and 30 days on renewal applications.
- If the applicant fails to get fingerprints within 45 days, the license automatically becomes “withdrawn”.
- CPL holders can apply for a renewal up to 6 months before expiration of current license.
- No picture is needed; your driver’s license picture will be uploaded to your CPL. In the event your driver’s license picture cannot upload, there will be an $8 picture fee.
